Michael Schumacher was born in Hürth-Hermülheim, western Germany. Schumacher is the most successful Formula One race car driver of all times; winning seven World Championships, 91 Grand Prix titles and 68 pole positions in 250 races. In 2005 Forbes Celebrity 100, the list of „The World’s Most Powerful Celebrities“, he ranked at number 17.

Schumacher discovered his love for racing at the age of four at his father’s go-cart course. In 1984 and 1985 he won the German junior karting championship, and in 1987 he gained the German and European karting titles. Schumacher” made his Formula One debut with Jordan-Ford team at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix. He switched to Benetton the following year and won the drivers' world championship for that team in 1994 and 1995. Before the 1996 season he moved to the Ferrari team, winning five more championships with the Italian team.

Being the first German to win the F1 World Championship, he is credited with raising the popularity of Formula One in Germany to unprecedented levels. His younger brother, Ralf, joined him on the Grand Prix circuit in 1997.

On September 10, 2006 Schumacher announced his retirement from racing. Off the track, Schumacher is committed to fund-raising for organizations such as UNESCO.
